Around the dream 6. The Vatican

In 2001, almost at the same time as the attack on the Twin Towers in New York, Ángel Marcos began a project in this city that has been adding locations, generating a recognisable, calculated and at the same time emotional body of work. This project, generically called Alrededor del sueño (Around the Dream), brings together photographic work in different cities around the world (New York, Cuba, China, Madrid, Barcelona) and the latest work, which is being presented for the first time at the Enlace Arte Contemporáneo Gallery: Vatican.
Considering the Vatican a city-state, Ángel Marcos has worked, as in the entire Alrededor del sueño project, from different perspectives to show us ‘Power’. In this work, Power is manifested in its purest form. Through photographs of the city’s public spaces, we glimpse the economic and religious secrets it holds, while religion, as a catalyst and generator of desires and hopes in our society, is positioned in Ángel Marcos’ work as a dream aimed at achieving well-being.
The author, using photography as his main technique of artistic expression, places us in front of everyday life, making us reflect on our own condition. These images invite us to enjoy them at first glance, then the viewer will feel immersed in a kind of disturbing interest. His works, loaded with great visual appeal, will bring us back to the world with an unusual critical reality.
