The Intimate Subversion

The Intimate Subversion is a theme that I explore in all of my artistic investigation, in which I employ different approaches to consider in each of my series of works the ways that economic power spreads and imposes itself on society, as well as the defenselessness of certain social groups.
While it is true that ‘The intimate subversion’ is reflected in the financial system and in the clear signs that our society has lost its sense of smell, the search for alternatives to this system based on the emotions and personal relationships makes this project very different to my others. I have studied the Las Tudas and La Mota neighborhoods of Medina del Campo (Castile and León), the town where I was born. Both of these neighborhoods are important to me and are connected with my affective memory.
I developed the central corpus of this project in these two places, as they are cut off to a certain degree from major urban centres and so, by virtue of this isolation, the conditions for forging very close personal relationships arise. Moreover, they are neighborhoods where the decisions made by a single resident are immediately noticed by everyone else, as a result of which the order of the community is simultaneously altered. By virtue of the very fact that these alterations are immediately discerned, they are not unidentified but have a scent. That is ‘The intimate subversion’, that part of our thinking, our affectivity and our activities that we recognize in others.
