The white glance
Senegal, Africa.
A series where the artist turns his compassionate gaze of lament and condemnation on the exploitation the Third World suffers.
Ángel Marcos reports not from gruesome images or from the stark drama but from insinuation.
The photographer, in reverse order to the usual run, starts from beauty to come to grief, uses aesthetics to undertake a journey that, with the help of art, charges against hypocrisy of the developed countries, whose leisure culture has as a tourist destination the Third World.
It feels like the dictionary definition of horrendous emptiness is being depicted in the most beautiful way. Feeling something is better than feeling nothing at all.
Indifferent to the exoticism, Ángel Marcos gives back to the leisure culture, with its own weapons of aesthetics, images of some raw materials such as salt, which they use to survive, and that the artist signs with the inquisitive and devastating look of a child on the point of suffering.
