The Creadores 2025 exhibition ‘The Gods, Too, Dwelt in These Lands’, with which Valladolid is celebrating European Creativity Month, brings together 31 artists born in or with links to Castile and León to pay tribute to the region’s landscape. Curated by Concha Hermano, the exhibition presents a visual narrative of these lands centred on four themes: interior landscape, depopulation, transformation, and memory and territory.
The Castilian landscape is a source of inspiration through which the artists create their own reality, transporting the visitor to a place of contemplation, to a pictorial experience shaped by identity and consciousness.
The works are not only an ode to the region’s landscape, but also a vindication of the territory’s memory and a synthesis of its past, present and future that invites reflection on transformation. For, as some of the works featured in ‘Even the Gods Dwelt in These Lands’ remind us, the landscape is myth and beauty, but also desolation and abandonment.
Historical masters such as Esteban Vicente, Díaz Caneja, José Núñez Larraz and Delhy Tejero engage in dialogue with emerging artists such as Belén Rodríguez, Amaya Bombín and Ana Frechilla in an intergenerational exercise. The exhibition is also a mosaic of perspectives in which artistic languages, movements and disciplines interlock. Thus, the Castilian landscape is presented as a source of inspiration in painting (José María Mezquita, César Paternosto, Néstor San Miguel, Carlos García Alix, Rufo Criado, Julián Valle and Charo Carrera), sculpture (Fernando Sinaga, Ana Sánchez and David Rodríguez Caballero), photography (Ángel Marcos, Javier Ayarza, Concha Pérez, José María Marbán, Carlos García Andrés) and in the work of multidisciplinary artists (Bene Bergado, Luis Moro, Asunción Molinosgordo, Eugenio Ampudia, José Luis Viñas, Marina Núñez, Mercedes Melero, Agueda de la Pisa and Bettina Geiselmann).
