Solo exhibition

Sala de Armas de la Ciudadela. Pamplona, Spain

16.02 – 28-04-24

Photographs, video and installations

Following its display at the Rac Foundation in Pontevedra, the Royal Botanical Gardens in Madrid and the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, Cuba, the exhibition Architectures of Survival by the artist Ángel Marcos is now on display in the Sala de Armas at the Ciudadela. This exhibition takes us on a visual and reflective journey, in which architecture plays a fundamental role, as can be seen both in his photographs across various media and in the installations on display. Through the artist’s unique lens, we bear witness to human resilience in the face of extreme challenges, where the need for a home becomes a creative expression of survival.

Architectures of Survival invites viewers to explore the diversity of approaches to building across different parts of the world. From the favelas of Latin America to the informal settlements of Africa and Asia, Marcos documents how architecture becomes an essential tool for survival in diverse cultural contexts, demonstrating a creativity born of necessity…
