Ángel Marcos in ENCOUNTERS. A multiplicity of views on contemporary photography. Group exhibition.

The idea of exhibiting these two collections is a way of interrelating their
contents, as they complement and enrich each other, offering numerous perspectives on the artists’ vision of the use of photography.

The works that make up the exhibition fit naturally into the curatorial discourse and raise a series of themes, forms, convergences and similarities. Despite some temporal differences, there are surprising similarities in the way photography has evolved over this period.

Our selection of works is configured as a constellation of different voices and practices from the world of photography, which attempts to offer a broad vision of the image created from the last century to the present day. We have sought to shape this vision through a series of visual, social and conceptual arguments that unite and relate the works to each other, offering the possibility of creating suggestive encounters, juxtapositions and dialogues.

By relating the works according to certain associations of moments and photographic practices that are well represented in both collections, we have sought to highlight the formal characteristics, artistic expressions and aesthetic concerns of today’s photographers. We have also sought to convey the open spirit of creative flow that has characterised our era.

The exhibition Encuentros seeks to engage visitors by identifying similarities, comparing and interpreting images from both collections, and enjoying the coexistence of heterogeneous trends and languages characteristic of
the second half of the 20th century and the first two decades of the 21st century.

Many of the works on display are not the typical images one expects to find from photographers one is familiar with, but rather reveal a much more personal and intimate side of the artist confronting himself.
