The screen, both due to its condition as out of place, and because of its symbolic implications, is clearly set up as the axis around which the images are constructed. The tradition imposed by the logic of geometrical perspective and the different mechanisms of iconization derived therefrom, make the screen, as such, an element of visualization of the fi rst order. It is the place of the image , the surface par excellence devoted to it. But what distinguishes it from the canvas, or the wall, is the type of image that its condition implies. The screen is only such in respect of a projected image, the formation of which is governed by the laws of optics. A condition implying simultaneously the qualities of accessibility and visibility.
